Metering
ZENIA tracks chat message usage at two levels: workspace-wide, across all your domains, and per-domain, for each individual website. This helps you understand where your monthly quota is being used.
Counting
How message counting works
1. Each visitor question sent through the chat widget counts as 1 message when it is processed successfully.
2. The AI's response does not count as a separate message.
3. Failed messages are not normally deducted from your quota.
4. Counters reset at the start of each new monthly usage period.

Automatic updates
Usage counters can update automatically on open dashboard pages when supported usage updates are received. Some changes may appear only after the next fetch, page refresh, or dashboard reload.
Limits
What happens at the limit?
When your workspace reaches the monthly message limit, new visitor messages may be blocked until the limit resets or the workspace moves to a plan with a higher limit.
For visitors - The chat widget may show a message explaining that the monthly message limit has been reached.
For you - The dashboard can show the current usage state so you can review the plan limit and decide whether to change plans.
To resolve - Review your current plan and available options from the account area.

Breakdown
Per-domain breakdown
Each domain can have its own message count. On the Domain Detail > Overview tab, you may see two meters:
Domain messages - How many messages this specific domain has processed during the current usage period.
All domains - Your workspace-wide total across all domains. This is the total checked against the workspace plan limit.

History
Usage history
In addition to current-period counters, ZENIA can show historical usage trends where usage history is available. You can review usage from two places:
| Location | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Account > Usage tab | A workspace-wide monthly usage chart and summary table, where account usage history is available. |
| Domain Detail > Usage history panel | A per-domain monthly usage view, where domain usage history is available. |
Relay flow
How limits are enforced
ZENIA checks message usage against the workspace plan limit before accepting new chat messages. This helps keep usage aligned with the plan selected for the workspace.
